Sonday System
The Sonday System is a comprehensive line of materials designed to help educators provide multisensory reading instruction to students from pre-K through 8th grade reading levels. The Kirkwood School District began using Sonday resources with all K-5 students in August 2021, specifically in support of phonics and word study skills.
Recognizing the potential impact of COVID disruptions on students' growth, Winsor Learning made a series of Sonday System resources available to parents during the pandemic. These empowerment kits equip parents/guardians with everything needed to teach three weeks of Sonday reading lessons to your child, potentially for continued engagement over the summer months. We have also made these resources available below.
- Kindergarten Parent Empowerment Kit
- First Grade Parent Empowerment Kit
- Second Grade Parent Empowerment Kit
- Third Grade Parent Empowerment Kit
- Fourth Grade Parent Empowerment Kit
- Fifth Grade Parent Empowerment Kit
Some children may benefit from "backing up" to lessons from a previous grade, just as some may benefit from skipping forward.
Sonday System lessons are grounded in Orton-Gillingham methodology and reflect 40+ years of research in the science of reading. Sonday System resources are also endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association. The K-5 scope and sequence for lessons can be viewed below.
