Gender Gaps at Tillman
Gender gaps exist at Tillman, both on academic indicators like Fastbridge and MAP assessments and in survey responses to better understand how students value math and science.
Math Gaps
- On recent benchmark assessments in math, 81.8% of Tillman males (K-5) met or exceeded benchmark on the earlyMath (K/1) or aMath (2nd-5th) assessments. This number dipped to 72.6% of K-5 females on the same assessments.
- 59.1% of Tillman males (3rd-5th grade) scored at the Proficient or Advanced level on the math MAP test last spring, while 48.2% of females scored at the same level.
- When 3rd-5th graders were asked how important it is for them to do well in math, 87% of Tillman males answered favorably (Quite or Extremely Important), compared to 71% of females (Fall 2023).
- When asked how interesting they found things they learned in math, 66% of males answered favorably, compared to 50% of females.

Science Gaps
- 68.6% of males in 5th grade scored at the Proficient or Advanced level on the science MAP test last spring, compared to 62.9% of females scoring at the same levels.
- When 3rd-5th graders were asked how important it is for them to do well in science, 63% of Tillman males answered favorably (Quite or Extremely Important), compared to 57% of females (Fall 2023).
- When asked how interesting they found things they learned in science, 69% of males answered favorably, compared to 55% of females.
